Mark Thatcher was a river guide and back in 1982, he realized that the current shoe market did not offer a shoe or sandal that worked very well for his profession. What happens when tennis shoes get wet? They get very heavy and uncomfortable. The only sandals available at the time were not meant to wear in water because they would not stay on your feet very well.
Thatcher went to work and designed a nylon sandal that had an ankle strap which quickly became the first sport sandal that was also fashionable. The rest is history....
